On June 27, 2017 the Minister of the Environment approved the Highway 101 Twinning – Three Mile Plains to Falmouth project after an Environmental Assessment, subject to terms and conditions.

One of the conditions (condition 4.1) was that the Approval Holder, Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (NSTIR) “must communicate to the public and the Mi’kmaq to explain why the causeway at the Avon River was selected over other options (including a bridge).”

Accordingly, On December 6, 2017 the Project Team (comprising NSTIR and Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture) released a communication document explaining why the aboiteau and causeway option was selected over others.

The communication document can be downloaded here.
